Unveiled new design of 100 US dollar A new design of 100 dollars banknote of United States of America was unveiled on 21st April 2010, during a ceremony at the Department of the Treasury's Cash Room. The U.S. government redesigns currency in order to stay ahead of counterfeiters and protect the public. U.S. currency users should know they will not have to trade in their older design $100 notes when the new ones begin circulating. There are a number of security features in the redesigned $100 note, including two new features, the 3-D Security Ribbon and the Bell in the Inkwell. New design of Philippines currency The BSP is upgrading the security features in all of our banknotes to make it easier for the public to detect fake money. The new currency will change in design. The size will remain the same. The BSP will start distributing the initial batch of new banknotes in December 2010. New coins will be introduced starting 2012. The present banknotes will remain in circulation and will continue to be accepted as legal tender for at least three more years. read more ... |

Sierra Leone resizing banknotes The Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Mr. Sheku Sambadeen Sesay has announced the Bank's plan to gradually replace all notes in circulation with a new family of resized banknotes commencing in June this year, at a Press Conference held at the Bank of Sierra Leone Staff Recreational Complex. The new notes maintained the same design themes with those currently in circulation, however the security features in the new resized notes have been enhanced and special features incorporated to aid sorting and identification by the illiterate and visually impaired. Bank of England is withdrawing the Elgar 20 pound banknote The Bank of England is withdrawing the older style £20 notes that show a portrait of Sir Edward Elgar. Holders of these notes may continue to use them until the end of June 2010. The Bank of England will always exchange its old notes. read more ... |

Swiss delays new banknotes Intensive efforts are underway at the Swiss National Bank (SNB) on the preparatory work for its new banknote series. The project activities have revealed that additional development work will bring improvements as regards those technological security features which are being used for the first time. However, this will take time, and as a result the project will need to be rescheduled. The SNB expects that the first note of the new series can be issued in 2012. read more ...

New Turkish passports to be released June 1 New passports that comply with international standards will be made available on June 1, Interior Minister Beşir Atalay announced at a press conference in the Central Anatolian province of Konya. The new passports will be valid for 10 years once they are issued. Diplomatic passports, meanwhile, will be black and normal citizens passports will be red. read more...

India's Biggest Headcount The 2011 census -- fifteenth in the series and independent India's seventh. In the first phase will people enumerating and classifying them according to their gender, religion, occupation and education. Photographs and finger prints will be collected later for persons aged 15 years and above to create a biometric national database, which would help India to probably become the first democratic nation in the world which would have got its population fingerprinted in a year from now. read more... |

ePassport Market Adoption to Reach 88% by 2014 New research from Acuity Market Intelligence indicates that ePassports accounted for 57% of all passports issued and 28% of all passports in circulation in 2009. Acuity projects that continued market adoption will drive ePassport penetration to 88% of all passports issued in 2014 accounting for nearly 80% of all passports in circulation by the beginning of 2015. read more...

ePassport in Canada from 2012 In 2012, Canada will begin issuing electronic passports, or ePassports, to all its citizens. By that time, over 100 other countries will also have begun issuing this higher-security passport. Canada must follow evolving international practices in the field of passport security to protect its borders and maintain the ease of international travel that Canadians currently enjoy. At the same time, Passport Canada will start offering the option of a 10-year validity period as well as a 5-year validity period. read more...

Georgia has started tp issue biometric passports From 15th April Georgia issues ePassport which contain picture and fingerprints of owner on chip embedded in passport, according to ICAO specifications. The expiry date of a biometric passport will be 10 years and it will cost 100 GEL. read more... |

ID card in Uganda The polycarbonate ID card will contain visible features such as a picture of the card holder, a signature, date of birth, sex, card number, date of expiry, a thumb print and the national flag with the map of Uganda. Invisible features include tribe, clan, village, parish, district, details of spouses, and child's information. Ministry of Internal Affairs is also looking to obtain Mühlbauer Technology's bio-metric voter registration system. read more...

German ID cards new identification cards containing radio-frequency (RFID) chips will be introduced starting November 1st, 2010. The information on the card itself will be digitally stored on the RFID chip inside the card, in addition to two fingerprint scans that German citizens can choose to opt out of. The ID will also have a digital signature that can be used to complete official business with government offices and possibly beyond – accessed only by a six digit PIN number. read more... |

UK plans for Next-Generation super ID card. The government is considering introducing a new generation of ID cards for British citizens in 2012, complete with a raft of new features. The proposals currently under consideration could potentially see ID cards used to perform new tasks - such as authorising online transactions using chip and PIN and verifying the holder's identity over the internet - which are not possible with existing British ID cards today. read more...

USA thinks about ID cards A new attempt at immigration reform may require a biometric ID card for all working Americans. Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker. read more... |

Malaysia issues ePassports from 2nd February The data stored in the latest version of the Malaysian e-passport can be read in at least 74 countries as it complies with the International Civil Aviation Organisation standard. Although Malaysia introduced the use of the security chip in passports in 1998 and included biometric features like fingerprint in 2002, the data could not be read in some countries. read more...
